13 – In Christ Alone

Hope isn’t a practice;
It’s a person.

So when I think about seeking a
patient,
confident,
faith-filled,
expectant
hope

All I must do is fix my eyes on the cross.
In remembering Christ’s finished work
I find all hope restored.

I went to a talk once that described hope as being scrappy—a discipline that required relentless pursuit. Hope would tell you to “get up” no matter how many times you got knocked down.

And while I don’t discount the perseverance needed to navigate the highs and lows of life, I can’t help but feel exhausted by this depiction of hope. This hope says it’s all up to me: the outcome depends on my own power and might.

Yet, the beautiful thing about being a coworker with God is that I get to place my trust in the One who is ultimately in control. I’m called to work with all my heart, to love my neighbor as myself, and let that love be evident in my actions and deeds, but I’m surrendered to Him.

In Christ, I receive God’s marvelous gift of grace (2 Corinthians 16:1) and that alone is sufficient for the journey ahead.
