I’m a little pencil in the hand of a writing God, who is sending a love letter to the world.
— Mother Theresa
This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. Over the years, I’ve read a few different books by Mother Theresa, sometimes with my own mother.
Recently, something new has emerged from this metaphor. Most often, we use a pencil to write, but sometimes we use it to point.
I want to be a pencil, revealing the story the Father’s writing in my life and pointing people to the hope found in Him alone. Truthfully, I can’t do the former without the latter.
I say this knowing that as much as I’m called to love, model grace, and be trustworthy, I will fall short. Yet in the midst of my inadequacy, I can point people to the One who loves us always.
The One who wraps us up in arms of grace.
The One who is dependable.
The One who has never failed and won’t start now.
